There is no substitute for cuddling up next to a child to share a great book! Reading aloud with our children helps us create strong parent-child bonds and promotes healthy brain development. Stories take them to places and times they may never experience—enriching their life experience and enhancing their understanding of the world. Reading together promotes communication skills, patience and empathy. As Jim Trelease, renowned author of The Read-Aloud Handbook states, “People would stand in line for days and pay hundreds of dollars if there were a pill that could do everything for a child that reading aloud does. It expands their interest in books, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and attention span. Simply put, it’s a free ‘oral vaccine’ for literacy.”

Play
Play is the work of childhood! During role play, children develop critical thinking skills and feelings of empathy. Role play improves creativity and leads to better school performance. It provides an opportunity for children to “try on” emotions and solve complex relational problems. Role play enhances language development and communication skills. It also works as a stress reliever and has a soothing effect on children.
Connect
A tight-knit family is the dream of every parent! We make this dream a reality by spending quality, unhurried time with our children. When we read great books, then engage in a meaningful related activity together, we create memories to last a lifetime. When we look back at the time we spent raising children, these moments of connection will mean everything!
